Japanese males tend to have a slightly different way of thinking when it comes to cuteness in their girlfriends. The current generation of Japanese men are becoming more notorious for their herbivorous traits. This meaning that men act more feminine, shy, clingy and are prone to jealousy.
So let’s take a look at what Japanese guys find cute in a girl along with my thoughts on each point:
#10 They are jealous of your previous girlfriends
Some may agree that this proves their love for you. Others may find this extremely annoying. Apparently Japanese men find this cute so it makes me wonder if they ‘accidentally’ happen to mention one of their ex-girlfriends just to see their reaction. DO NOT get them jealous for heaven’s sake!
#9 They adopt your hobbies
I would love it if my girlfriend was passionate about games, technology and other Otaku related stuff but there’s more chance of a Gyaru becoming a conservative house wife. Adopting your hobbies out of love isn’t the way to go and it could just end up making you go insane. “Variety is the spice of life” is what they say.
#8 They clean your place for you
Can’t argue with this one! However in my situation, it’s the other way around thanks to my mild OCD…
#7 They want to go everywhere with you
Why do Japanese men find this cute? Don’t they appreciate privacy? It’s the complete opposite in the West, as you always hear guys saying they just want a ‘boys night out’.
#6 They ask what you did if you don’t see them every day
There’s a fine line between being asked something and interrogation. I think this falls into the later. There seems to be a pattern here where Japanese men like clingy girls. Most likely their answer to them would be either “I was working” or “I passed out on the train after work“.
#5 They always spend the weekend with you
I can kind of understand this because in Japan, men tend to work unearthly hours during the week. The only free time they get is when they sleep and their commute home. Of course they could get home earlier but they’d rather prefer spending their time with colleagues in izakayas!
#4 They ask you if you ‘love’ them on a regular basis
Surely this just shows that the girl doesn’t believe you when you say it! What’s strange about this one is that Japanese men NEVER say “I love you” to their partners or family members. It’s just not part of their culture.
#3 They help you out with everyday things
Understandable. As previously mentioned, men are usually far too busy to cook and clean due to working shifts which can range from 10 – 15 hours! Most Japanese men are unable to fend for themselves when it comes to cooking. This is exactly why fast food chains such as Yoshinoya and Matsuya are exclusively filled with salarymen.
#2 They make you lunch (bentos)
Pretty much the same as the above. These lunchboxes however are a bit special. They are called “Aisaibentou” which literally translates to, “Lunchbox made with loving care”. This is considered very special within Japanese culture.
#1 They link arms with you
To be honest, I didn’t see this one coming. Since kissing is not publicly acceptable in Japan, the only things you can do to show of your relationship status is by holding hands or linking arms. The fact that this has placed itself as number one just reinforces the fact that Japanese men are getting more herbivorous than ever!
Any of these points ring a bell for you? Maybe there’s something I’ve missed, so let me know in the comments section below!
