First I wanna get this out of the way. I forgot to post about the time I met Chiaki’s good friend where we had some (expensive) yakitori in Ginza. She’s really quirky and is similar to Chiaki. She got me a surprise birthday cake/dessert (3rd time that’s happened now!) but I just wanted to show you guys the wonders of Engrish… Spot the 2 mistakes!

It wasn’t her fault it was the waiter’s. So on to the my next story. Saturday I worked all day and at the end there was a Halloween party for students. It was only 2 hours long and the students actually had to pay to attend! I’m guessing because it’s a chance for them to speak Engrish with us teachers. I planned to make an escape early because I had to meet a friend at Shibuya but there was no way of sneaking out. So fake laughs and conversations ensued while we ate free pizza, sushi and beer. We played some games which were pretty fun and overall it wasn’t actually that bad. So yeah that’s why I was tipsy at work (sorry to dissapoint).
Met my friend at Nakano Sakaue instead around 10pm and we went to an izakaya for some snaks and drink. I had a drink called Lime sour and christ was it sour. I could barely drink it so that was a waste of 500 yen… I could have got 5 boxes of cereal for that (yeah you start to think like that when living alone in Tokyo).
I was with Take (some of you will know who he is) and he’s so funny coz he speaks amazing slang English. We made a master plan to go to the ‘HUB’ pub near Waseda university on weekdays coz I heard that’s when students go for drinks and it’s great for meeting people our age etc. So I walked home at 2am and went to bed, since I needed to get up at 7:30am…
I went to the Tokyo Bigsight (home to the legendary anime conventions) to see the Design Festa. It had loads of interesting modern art things and I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I wanted. But I saw a hilarious sketch about Street Fighter 2!
On the train ride home there was a hardcore Otaku sitting opposite me. I really wish I took a secret picture of him because he was holding a big bag with anime girls in bikinis on it with poster sticking out of it. It reinforced my respect for them though because they are the few people in Japan who aren’t suppressed by society here and they really don’t care what other people think of them.
Long live Zion. So I ended my day at a Thai restaurant with a friend in Shinjuku which was nice. Actually I got a letter in the post but I couldn’t read a word of it, but I had a feeling it was really important. My friend translated it for me and it was my Health Insurance bill lol. So I have to pay around £23 a month by just paying it at a bank or combini.
So that was my weekend (sorry for the length!). If you can, please try to comment my blogs so I can see who’s reading and I wanna know your thoughts! Enjoy the pics (more on FB). 1 month in Japan so far!
